Dorian Rhodell Lecture, Wednesday, September 14, Sponsored by I.B.M. Ring 216
This will be a relatively broad lecture and not focused in any one medium. It is designed to impart advice that can be applied to any branch of magic. For example, choosing the right sleights to use in an effect and how to eliminate or circumvent tells (actions that tip off that something is about to happen) in the work we already do. Dorian will cover some of his card material from his recent DVD release, his coin work, bill switch, and other material. Much of what Dorian has learned has been passed down to him by way of five mentors; Jon E. King, Jerry Camaro, Paul Chosse, Larry Jennings, and Ron Bauer. Dorian has been given permission to teach some of Ron Bauer's material and will be going over a couple of items of Paul Chosse's. Member Cost: $15, Non Member Cost: $25, Time: 7:30pm, For address of location, go to www.ring216.org .

Joshua Jay Lecture, October 28, Sponsored by I.B.M. Ring 216
Acclaimed performer, author, and lecturer Joshua Jay will present his all-new lecture that he debuted at the SAM National Convention. Magic with coins, cards, borrowed bills, wristwatches, books, and more. You will learn close-up and parlor magic, and there will be something for every skill level. Joshua was just named the 2011 Close-up Magician of the Year by SAM, and has just completed a very successful run of his one man show, UNREAL. Twenty-eight-year-old Joshua Jay has been called magic’s Renaissance man by MAGIC Magazine. It’s not hard to see why: he is a performer, lecturer, author, and photographer of all things mysterious. He maintains a globetrotting performance schedule—Jay has performed in over fifty countries and appears regularly on national television (most recently on Good Morning America and the Today Show). His performance style is completely unique: he performs with ordinary, borrowed objects, causing them to twist, bend, appear, and vanish at will. At only seventeen years old Joshua Jay was crowned world champion for close-up magic at the World Magic Seminar, and he is now regarded as one of the leading creative forces in the magic world. Member costs: $15, Non Member Cost $25, Time: 7:30PM. Please note the Meeting location is: Akiyama Wellness Center, 110 Jackson Street, San Jose, CA 9511. This location is down the street from the regular Yu Ai Kai meeting location near 4th Street. Email vicepresident@ring216.org for additional questions.

Magic @ The Rex starring RJ Owens, Adam Sachs & Sebastian Boswell
Ongoing Every Saturday Night 8:00pm
The Hotel Rex, 562 Sutter Street, San Francisco
Magic at the Rex is an evening of mystery, wonderment and laughs.  In an intimate cocktail lounge setting at the classic Hotel Rex in Union Square, you will be up close and personal with every flick of the wrist and wave of a hand of Adam Sachs, Sebastian Boswell III and RJ Owens.
Here's how the San Francisco Chronicle described the show:  "Forget the pyrotechnics, fog machines and cheesy background music - this isn't Caesars Palace. Absolute Magic focuses on the interactive and communal aspects of a magic show rather than the spectacle. Featured are local magicians RJ Owens - whose avuncular charm and offbeat brand of comedy magic will have you somewhere between smirking and outright chortling (depending on your sheepishness) - and Adam Sachs, with his mystifying sleight of hand, which may require reminders to close your mouth."
Tickets are $25, and there’s a two drink minimum.

East Bay Magic

This site is dedicated to the furtherance of the magic hobby and profession in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Our intent is to be a one-stop-shop for anyone interested in Magic and Magicians.

Magicians, both hobyists and professionals all need peer contact and mentoring. We hope to bring information of local performances of area magicians, as well as performances and lectures by magicians from around the world.

We also hope to promote the local Magic Clubs and their activities as well as promoting the area Magic Dealers.

We will also try to provide one stop access to resources for magicians available on the web. If you know of any other resources that would be of help to the magical community, please contact us.

Lastly, we hope to improve and promote the appreciation of magic and magicians in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. One way to do that is to promote benefit performances. If you are performing a benefit, or have an idea for one, please contact us.
