Magic @ The Rex starring RJ Owens, Adam Sachs & Sebastian Boswell
Ongoing Every Saturday Night 8:00pm
The Hotel Rex, 562 Sutter Street, San Francisco
Magic at the Rex is an evening of mystery, wonderment and laughs. In an intimate cocktail lounge setting at the classic Hotel Rex in Union Square, you will be up close and personal with every flick of the wrist and wave of a hand of Adam Sachs, Sebastian Boswell III and RJ Owens.
Here's how the San Francisco Chronicle described the show: "Forget the pyrotechnics, fog machines and cheesy background music - this isn't Caesars Palace. Absolute Magic focuses on the interactive and communal aspects of a magic show rather than the spectacle. Featured are local magicians RJ Owens - whose avuncular charm and offbeat brand of comedy magic will have you somewhere between smirking and outright chortling (depending on your sheepishness) - and Adam Sachs, with his mystifying sleight of hand, which may require reminders to close your mouth."
Tickets are $25, and there’s a two drink minimum.

These pages will list all of the local Bay Area Magicians and Clowns, Jugglers, etc., who wish to be listed and who supply me with their information. I expect this to be a resource to non-magicians who are looking to book entertainment, as well as a resource of magicians to use as referrals should an entertainer be able to refer work to others. Please send an email to: webmaster@eastbaymagic.com, if you would like your information shared on this site.
The Magicians listed so far are:
Doug Kevilus
Award-Winning Magician, Mentalist and Entertainer, Doug Kevilus is a regular
performer at The California Magic Dinner Theater. You can find him there most weekends unless he is performing at some other venue. It is interesting to note that Doug is the only mentalist and mind reader that has been invited to perform there on an ongoing basis. He has performed in a variety of venues from country clubs to the Peppermill Casino in Reno, and he's performed for a variety of people including celebrities such as Doug McConnell from Bay Area Backroads on KRON 4.
Imagine a mind reader who will demonstrate unbelievable feats of telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, precognition and various other mentalist effects. These performances will leave your audience stunned! The personal impact of having your mind read makes his show irresistible even for skeptics and will enthrall all of your guests! Doug is an award-winning entertainer that utilizes a psychological form of magic, often referred to as "magic of the mind" or mentalism. Whether he appears to be reading people's minds, bending metal objects, or predicting future events, the results are astonishing. He will be able to reveal intimate thoughts, influence your actions and decisions, and cause you to believe in the absolute impossible. www.paranormalmind.com
Dr. Solar
World famous Dr. Solar’s show is fast paced and chock full of comedy. Ragtime music sets the tone. For birthday parties, your child will be transformed into the magical star by show’s end.
With his menagerie of doves, rabbits, frogs, fish, rats, and mice, you generally never know what's in store, though his claims are, that you will see ... "IT ALL"
Through his character, and his “Suitcase Scalawags”, he offers much audience participation as he weaves a blend of magic and comedic physical antics. The show is completely authentic, down to the costumes, music, and characters.
His shows encourage moral values, self-esteem building, and personal empowerment. www.drsolar.com
Timothy James has traveled the world presenting his own unique and freshly roasted
blend of comedy and magic! He's not just a magician! He's a legend in his own mind!
Joining the showbiz world at the age of ten when he started performing magic at birthday
parties, Timothy went on to win many prestigious awards for entertainment, including
the Lance Burton Award of Excellence at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas!
Now, after graduating from California State University with a degree in theatre, you can find
him appearing at comedy clubs, corporate events and even the world famous Magic Castle
in Hollywood! www.timothyjamesproductions.com
Wayne “Dr P” Pernell has been performing magic for over 30 years! His interest in magic started when he was quite young and he enjoys performing for audiences of all ages and sizes in all kinds of venues.
Wayne was influenced by early TV shows – Doug Henning’s specials, Mark Wilson’s specials, and of course, The Magician starring Bill Bixby. He wanted to find ways to bring magic to his world everyday. He did so by starting a magic club with a few friends at his high school. Before long, they – as individuals, pairs, or a group were performing not just for each other, but on stages in venues around Southern California.
Wayne studied psychology in graduate school and ultimately earned his doctorate in clinical psychology. Employing his love for working with people and encouraging creativity, Wayne brought magic to his work, a management consultation and executive coaching practice based in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. www.magicofdrp.com
Safire
Safire became interested in magic at the age of seven when she received her first magic set as a gift from her father. Since then, her love of magic has gone beyond merely performing on stage - she has also written and produced numerous magic shows. She has dedicated herself to the study and production of every detail of magic, from storyboarding, choreography, editing music, and even the invention of new magic techniques. Her first love, however, will always be performing magic.
This passion for magic has taken Safire around the world. While in Nanjing, China she became the apprentice of the resident magician of the Nanjing Acrobatics Troupe. In Beijing, China she studied the art of Peking Opera with Duke University's Study In China program. Back home in the United States, while completing her Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Language and Literature at Smith College in Massachusetts, she performed for the Smith College television station, the annual Smith College Asian Teahouse Celebration, and numerous other events sponsored by Smith College. www.magicsafire.com
